Case Measurements:
The case measures 41mm in diameter, with a 16mm thickness (16.5mm including the glass) and a lug width of 20mm. The watch wears as a medium to large size on an average wrist as it houses a chronograph movement inside and has brass pusher buttons on the side of the case.
Lug to Lug:
The lug to lug measurement is 49.5mm. This is an important measurement from the top of the north lug to the bottom of the south lug, allowing you to know how much real estate the watch will take up on your wrist.
Case Execution:
Our case is finished in 316L grade stainless steel with the sides and lugs executed with a brushed finish. Our aluminium bezel is unidirectional with a strong setting to each click. The caseback engravings such as our limited edition or authenticity markings are applied through laser engraving.
Movement Specifications:
Swiss-Made Sellita Group SW510 Chronograph Movement with a 48 hour power reserve, 25 jewels accuracy and 28,800 beats per hour. The timekeeping tolerance provided by Sellita is +/-5 seconds per day to +/-12 seconds per day. For full power reserve Sellita recommends that you wind the crown 40 times.
Dial Execution:
The dial has a matte coloured finish with cut-out indices and sub dials located at 3pm and 9pm. The 3pm disc measures the start / stop chronograph hand operated by the brass chronograph buttons, and the 9pm disc is the seconds hand. We have a date window located at 6pm which is operated by the watch crown. The dial and hands are curved creating a subtle optical illusion when looking through the side of the glass. Sat below the dial is a C3 grade Super-LumiNova disc finished in the colour green.
Dial Design:
Printed around the outside of the dial is our seconds track which is the exact chequered markings off the side of a British fire engine. The two batten shaped indices positioned at 12 represent the lapel markings that a Crew Manager wears on their uniform in the UK Fire & Rescue Service. The front of our chronograph hand is inspired by the chime inside of a vintage fire bell and the back of the hand represents the head of a firefighter axe. The sub dials are inspired by pressure pump gauges when opening the valve on fire hose. Our iconic vintage firefighter helmet logo is applied to the dial with microlevel detailing.
Crystal:
The material used in our glass is sapphire crystal with an applied anti-reflective coating. The glass is completely scratch resistant and finished with a low flush curve. The glass is tinted with a medium blue colour paying tribute to William Wood’s 25 years of service on a shift pattern called The Blue Watch for the Newcastle & Gateshead Fire Brigade.
Strap Measurements:
Our fire hose and fire gear straps fit a wrist size between 5.5 and 9.5 inches. Our stainless steel bracelet comes with additional links so it can be adjusted to measure all wrist sizes. We do not currently offer straps for lug sizes outside of 20mm.
Strap Execution:
Our full range of watch straps have a 20mm lug width fitting all of our watch collections. Our upcycled fire hose and fire gear straps are finished with a silicon back that is stamped with ‘made from rescued materials’ and ‘William Wood’.
