Dunkirk Watch

**Our greatest watch yet and a milestone in British watchmaking history**. Our new Dunkirk Watch is a Swiss-Made bronze nautical watch made in collaboration with a London Fire Brigade Fire Boat (The Massey Shaw) that saved over 600 lives off the beaches of Dunkirk in World War II. The watch has a genuine piece of the boat engine used in the Dunkirk Evacuation, named Operation Dynamo, in the 1940's displayed in the back of the watch. The Massey Shaw Boat was sailed by 13 brave crew across the channel four times into the helm of Dunkirk alongside 850 other Little Ships, to sway the war in favour of the allied forces against the Nazi war machine. The watch dial is inspired by the telegraph found in the wheelhouse of the Massey Shaw used by the Captain on the bridge to order engineers in the engine room to power the vessel. We have created one of the most unique case constructions in the industry with red engine rooms pipes displayed in the Massey Shaw Boat wrapped about the bronze nautical case. The back of our Dunkirk Watch watch depicts the famous Operation Dynamo scene with a real piece of the Massey Shaw engine used in Operation Dynamo from the 1940's, machine cut into the shape of the Massey Shaw Boat in the caseback. The watch features the most accurate Swiss-Made movement we have ever used, the Sellita SW200 Top Grade Premium Movement, one grading down from their highest certified chronometer movement. The straps of our Dunkirk Watch are made from upcycled firefighter jackets and trousers worn in real fires by UK Fire & Rescue Service. Every customer who purchases a Dunkirk Watch will have their name engraved onto a plaque placed onto the Massey Shaw Boat for her channel crossing in 2025 with the original Little Ships to mark the 80th year anniversary of World War II ending, making you a real piece of WWII history. William Wood Watches have donated £10,000 GBP to the Massey Shaw Partnership Trust to help refurbish the Massey Show engine for her journey in 2025. Pre-order now for delivery in November to wear for Remembrance and Veterans Day. Pay in full at £3,995 or spread the cost interest free over 6 months at £665 per month. Winston Churchill wanted to rescue 30,000 troops from the beaches of Dunkirk. In the end 338,000 were saved thanks to the brave actions of British and allied troops by sea, air and land. The Miracle of Dunkirk, "When the whole world seems to be against you, never give up. There is always a glimmer of hope,".

Our new Dunkirk Watch is made in La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland.

Movement Specifications:

Swiss-Made Sellita Group SW220 Movement upgraded to the Premium Top Grade with the highest precision accuracy of +/-4 sec/day up to +/- 15 sec/day. The SW220 Premium Top Grade Movement has a 38 hour power reserve, 26 jewels accuracy and 28,800 beats per hour.

Become A Part Of History:

Anyone who purchases a Dunkirk watch will have their name engraved onto a plaque on the boat that will sail over the channel in 2025 for the 80th year anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation

Case Measurements:

The case measures 42mm in diameter, with a 13mm thickness and a lug width of 20mm. The watch wears as a medium to large size on an average wrist.

Lug To Lug:

The lug to lug measurement is 49.5mm. This is an important measurement from the top of the north lug to the bottom of the south lug, allowing you to know how much real estate the watch will take up on your wrist.

Case Execution:

Our case is finished in CuSn8 grade bronze with the sides and lugs executed with a brushed finish. Bronze will age and patina over time changing both colour and texture. The case can be brought back to looking brand new again by applying lemon juice. The side of the case is wrapped with red piping taken inspiration from the engine room of the Massey Shaw Boat. The back of our Dunkirk Watch has a matte black caseback ring featuring an illustration of the famous scene of Operation Dynamo on the beaches of Dunkirk back in 1940.

Dial Design:

The one-of-a-kind dial in bronze, black, and red was inspired by the unique twin telegraphs of the Massey Shaw, which are used to operate both the fire pumps and the main engines of the ship. The dial uses an aged champagne Super-LumiNova to look like a watch from the 1940's. Both STOP and LONDON illuminate on the dial in red to match the Massey telegraphs.

Caseback Design:

We Will Remember. A beautiful commemorative caseback features a scene of Dunkirk engraved on three-tone bronze, including soldiers waiting on the beach and the Little Boats. An original piece of the Massey Shaw engine used in the Dunkirk evacuation has been melted-down and poured into the silhouette of the Massey Shaw on the horizon of the caseback Operation Dynamo scene.

The material used in our glass is sapphire crystal with an applied anti-reflective coating. The glass is completely scratch resistant and finished with a low flush curve. The glass is tinted with a medium blue colour paying tribute to William Wood’s 25 years of service on a shift pattern called The Blue Watch for the Newcastle & Gateshead Fire Brigade.

Strap Measurements:

Our fire gear and fire hose straps fit a wrist size between 5.5 and 9.5 inches. We do not currently offer straps for lug sizes outside of 20mm.

Strap Execution:

Our full range of watch straps have a 20mm lug width fitting all of our watch collections. Our upcycled fire gear and fire hose straps are finished with a silicon back that is stamped with ‘made from rescued materials’ and ‘William Wood’. All of our straps are fitted with quick-release levers allowing you to add and remove any of our straps without any additional tools required in just a few seconds.

Water Resistance:

For additional reduction in case thickness to 13mm we chose a water resistance of 50M / 5ATM
