A North East entrepreneur is honouring his grandfather’s memory and raising money to help fire fighters after designing a unique collection of watches.
Jonny Garrett founded William Wood Watches in 2016 to design and sell watches, with the company named after Mr Garrett’s grandfather, William Wood, who served as a firefighter in Newcastle city centre.
The company has sold its watches to more than 600 customers around the world and has a turnover of £120,000 this year.
Mr Garrett said: “William Wood was the name of my granddad and he served in the fire brigade in Newcastle and worked in the fire station on Pilgrim Street. We have set up a watch business dedicated to him.”
The firm’s watches are made from recycled material from fire stations, including hoses used to put out fires, meaning that the straps still retain a smoky odour. But Mr Garrett believes using the old material gives his watches a unique feature.
