Become A Part Of History:
Anyone who purchases a Dunkirk watch will have their name engraved onto a plaque on the boat that will sail over the channel in 2025 for the 80th year anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation
Case Measurements:
The case measures 42mm in diameter, with a 13mm thickness and a lug width of 20mm. The watch wears as a medium to large size on an average wrist.
Lug To Lug:
The lug to lug measurement is 49.5mm. This is an important measurement from the top of the north lug to the bottom of the south lug, allowing you to know how much real estate the watch will take up on your wrist.
Case Execution:
Our case is finished in CuSn8 grade bronze with the sides and lugs executed with a brushed finish. Bronze will age and patina over time changing both colour and texture. The case can be brought back to looking brand new again by applying lemon juice. The side of the case is wrapped with red piping taken inspiration from the engine room of the Massey Shaw Boat. The back of our Dunkirk Watch has a matte black caseback ring featuring an illustration of the famous scene of Operation Dynamo on the beaches of Dunkirk back in 1940.
Dial Design:
The one-of-a-kind dial in bronze, black, and red was inspired by the unique twin telegraphs of the Massey Shaw, which are used to operate both the fire pumps and the main engines of the ship. The dial uses an aged champagne Super-LumiNova to look like a watch from the 1940's. Both STOP and LONDON illuminate on the dial in red to match the Massey telegraphs.
Caseback Design:
We Will Remember. A beautiful commemorative caseback features a scene of Dunkirk engraved on three-tone bronze, including soldiers waiting on the beach and the Little Boats. An original piece of the Massey Shaw engine used in the Dunkirk evacuation has been melted-down and poured into the silhouette of the Massey Shaw on the horizon of the caseback Operation Dynamo scene.
Crystal:
The material used in our glass is sapphire crystal with an applied anti-reflective coating. The glass is completely scratch resistant and finished with a low flush curve. The glass is tinted with a medium blue colour paying tribute to William Wood’s 25 years of service on a shift pattern called The Blue Watch for the Newcastle & Gateshead Fire Brigade.
Strap Measurements:
Our fire gear and fire hose straps fit a wrist size between 5.5 and 9.5 inches. We do not currently offer straps for lug sizes outside of 20mm.
Strap Execution:
Our full range of watch straps have a 20mm lug width fitting all of our watch collections. Our upcycled fire gear and fire hose straps are finished with a silicon back that is stamped with ‘made from rescued materials’ and ‘William Wood’. All of our straps are fitted with quick-release levers allowing you to add and remove any of our straps without any additional tools required in just a few seconds.
Water Resistance:
For additional reduction in case thickness to 13mm we chose a water resistance of 50M / 5ATM
